Broadway in Bryant Park 7/31/2008

Instead of going to Broadway on Broadway this year, I finally got around to seeing my first Broadway in Bryant Park. The series of free summer concerts is held during lunchtime on the lawn in Bryant Park. I first found out about it around 5 years ago when I started seeing shows regularly. That year I made plans with a friend to see one of the concerts—wanted to catch the performance from Thoroughly Modern Millie, which I hadn't seen at that time—but unfortunately, the event was cancelled that day due to the lawn being wet or something or other. The weather that day happened to be great, though.

This year I wanted to see The Little Mermaid since I didn't get to see a performance from the show at last year's Broadway on Broadway. The weather forecasts leading up to that day were predicting rain, and I kept hoping it wouldn't because I'd miss another show due to it being cancelled. Fortunately, it turned out nice and sunny. I even got a sunburn on my scalp from sitting out there in the glare of the midday sun, which I didn't even notice until 2 days later! (O_o) Me looking in the mirror: Hey, wait a minute—why's my scalp red? (O_O) I always used to think about putting sunscreen where my hair parts, but I didn't do it that day because I never did it. Now, after that, I always do it.

Back to topic, besides The Little Mermaid, the other shows that gave performances that day were A Tale of Two Cities, Cirque Dreams (not to be confused with Cirque du Soleil), the limited engagement off-Broadway show In Transit, and the off-Broadway show Altar Boyz. Below are some of the photos I took of the concert:

Cirque Dreams:

In Transit:
The Little Mermaid:
Sierra Boggess performing "Part of Your World."
Tituss Burgess performing "Under the Sea."
The ladies who play Ariel's sisters and
Brian D'Addario as Flounder performing "She's in Love."
Because of the performance, I've come to like the new song. :)

Altar Boyz:
I thought the songs and performances from the show were
really cute and funny. I'll have to see it one time. ;)

The concert host being serenaded by the Boyz
singing "Something About You."
More photos can be seen on my Flickr.
